2010 Tax Returns March 2011 To our Clients and Friends, Starting with 2010 returns, we, as CPA's, are mandated by law to file all 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and 1041 (Estate and Trust) forms electronically. This will require us to input additional data related to the filing process, as well as change how a completed return is delivered to you. Many of you are already very familiar with this process as our office has been e-filing returns for over seven years now. With electronic filed returns, after completing the return, a draft copy will be provided to you for review and approval. When you have completed your review, sign the e-file authorization form provided and return this form to our office. Upon receipt of the signed form we will transmit your tax return electronically directly to the IRS. Please note that we cannot transmit a return to the IRS without a signed e-file authorization form. We will continue to provide a paper copy of your return for your records. To ensure these new procedures run smoothly, we ask for your cooperation in providing complete data related to your 2010 income tax return. Electronic filing is safe and secure, and has certain advantages. However, if you prefer, you can instead choose to file a paper return. To do this, you will need to sign and date the written request and return it to us. If you file a joint return, both you and your spouse must sign the request. We are required by law to obtain this signed and dated request form before we can release the paper return to you. Also, we are prohibited by law from mailing the return to the IRS on your behalf. Therefore, you will be responsible for mailing your return to the IRS. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us comply with these new mandatory electronic filing procedures.
